The Context: Software Where Mistakes Are Not an Option

Trading infrastructure is one of the most unforgiving domains in software engineering. The platforms our client builds and operates sit at the heart of global financial markets: they process enormous transaction volumes at extreme speed, where latency is measured in microseconds, downtime makes international headlines, and a single defect can have consequences measured in millions — per minute. Engineers who build this kind of software are a rare breed. They combine deep technical mastery (C++ at performance-critical level, distributed systems, data engineering at scale) with the discipline and judgment that mission-critical environments demand. You cannot train this profile quickly, and you cannot fake it in an interview. Finding these people — and finding them fast — is one of the hardest problems in technology recruitment. That is the context in which this client came to us.

Engagement 1: 60 Senior Hires in 4 Months — The Recruitment Sprint

The Challenge

The client — whose Romanian technology hub was entering a phase of accelerated growth — had launched a major new project requiring roughly 60 additional senior technologists: engineers, data specialists, technical leads, engineering managers, and agile roles. Here is the detail that matters: the client already had an internal recruitment team of more than 15 recruiters. This was not a company that lacked recruiting capability — it was a company whose recruiting capability, substantial as it was, could not absorb a sudden spike of this magnitude without compromising either speed or quality. They chose to compromise neither. They brought in a partner. The bar was uncompromising: senior-level only, across some of the scarcest profiles in the market — including data engineering, performance-critical C++, and portfolio analytics — for software where the cost of a bad hire is not measured in salary, but in risk.

Our Approach

Recruitment Sprint methodology. We structured the entire program as a series of focused sprints: batches of roles grouped by profile, each with defined sourcing strategies, interview slots pre-committed by hiring managers, and hard deadlines for every stage. No role sat idle; no candidate waited more than days for feedback. Radical alignment with the client. The single biggest success factor was the working relationship we built. We aligned every stakeholder — internal recruiters, hiring managers, engineering leadership — around one shared operating rhythm: weekly calibration, transparent pipelines, instant feedback loops. When a recruitment partner and a client operate as one team, timelines that look impossible on paper become routine. Network over reinvention. Two decades of recruiting senior technologists in this market meant we did not start from zero on a single role. We knew where the senior C++ community lives, which data engineers were quietly open to a move, and how to position a mission-critical platform as a career destination. Experience is speed.

The Result

All ~60 senior positions delivered in approximately four months — at a quality bar set by one of the most demanding engineering organizations in the world, and at a pace their own 15-person recruitment team, by their own assessment, could not have absorbed alone.

Engagement 2: Nine Senior C++ Engineers in Three Weeks

Some time later, the same client returned with a different kind of challenge: a complete team of nine highly experienced C++ engineers — the single scarcest senior profile in the Romanian market — needed within a deadline that made us blink. We will be honest: our first instinct was to negotiate the timeline. We told the client three weeks was extremely aggressive for nine senior C++ engineers. The client politely declined to extend it.

So we delivered all nine. In three weeks. At the project's close, the client confessed — with a smile — that they had never actually expected us to find these people that fast. They had set the deadline knowing it was nearly impossible. We have chosen to take that as a compliment. (We also recommend, as a general rule, telling your recruitment partner when a deadline is a stretch goal.)

The Ongoing Relationship

These two projects did not happen in isolation. Over the years, the client has returned to us repeatedly with punctual mandates — typically for exactly the kind of roles that stall internally: rare profiles, senior levels, hard deadlines. When a company with a large, capable in-house recruitment function keeps a specialist partner on speed dial, that is the market's most honest form of endorsement.

The Long View

The Romanian technology hub we helped staff during that critical growth phase went on to become one of the client's largest engineering centers worldwide — growing to well over a thousand technologists and playing a central role in building and operating the software that underpins global financial markets. We contributed two projects to that story. We are proud of both.

Key Takeaways

  • Senior-only, high-volume, high-stakes — pick three. Conventional wisdom says you can have volume, seniority, or speed, but not all of them. A disciplined sprint methodology, deep market networks, and true client alignment let us deliver all three.
  • We complement internal teams; we don't compete with them. Our best engagements are with clients who have strong internal recruitment and need a partner for the spikes and the "impossible" roles. That is precisely when specialist expertise earns its fee.
  • Domain gravity matters. Recruiting for mission-critical trading infrastructure is not generic IT recruitment. Understanding what makes these platforms — and the engineers who build them — different is what allows us to assess rigorously and move fast at the same time.
  • The best proof is the second phone call. And the third. And the ones after that.
